Ed Sherman founded Nolo Press in 1971 and has been an innovator in the field of law ever since. A graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law, 1964, and member of the California bar since 1965, he has made it his life's work to keep family problems out of the adversarial court system by making the legal process affordable and accessible, and by creating alternative solutions. The author of seventeen books, videos and software, he created independent paralegal services in 1973 that grew into an industry and transformed the face of legal services forever. Sherman co-founded Divorce Helpline and Couples Helpline, 1990 and 2004 respectively, which are operated by his law and mediation firm, Sherman Williams Lober & Thompson, which declines to represent anyone or go to court.
Sherman's most recent innovation is the Couple's Contract, which is featured in his new book,
Legal Essentials for California Couples, co-authored with Susan Cameron, and in his national book,
The Couples Contract for a Lasting Relationship, co-authored with Bruce Janke. Sherman firmly believes that every couple should have the advantages of the Couples Contract.
Susan Cameron
An attorney since 1988, Susan is co-author of
Legal Essentials for California Couples. She has experience in family law, business law, conflict management and mediation. Susan joined Divorce Helpline in 1990, and in 1996, she co-authored
California Marriage Law with Ed Sherman. Since 1997, she has practiced family mediation in Southern California, where she also teaches business law and conflict management at the University of Phoenix. She is now working on her Master of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Bruce Janke
California attorney Bruce Janke has practiced civil litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts since 1977, including three years devoted exclusively to consumer protection and 15 years in family law and adoptions. He is a former instructor at Santa Clara University Institute for Paralegal Education and at the American College of Switzerland.
