About LDAs listed here (California only):  People who once served the public as paralegals are now called Legal Document Assistants (LDAs). They are not attorneys and can only provide self help services at your specific direction. LDAs must register and display an LDA# unless working under the supervision of an attorney or non-profit organization. Professionals such as lawyers, mediators, etc. who are not LDAs do not need an LDA number.
