PRO UPDATE NOTES

New tax tables. CalSupport 2012 has the latest 2011 tax tables and rules for support being calculated in 2012. Older versions are now obsolete.

Screen 7, item 10—Payroll Tax Relief checkbox. Payroll tax relief was in affect at the beginning of 2012, meaning CalSupport applies 4.2% instead of the normal 6.2%. We think it will remain in effect throughout the year, but this is not yet certain. By default, CalSupport assumes the tax relief will stay in effect and applies the lower amount, but to be safe, we have inserted a checkbox at item 10 on Screen 7 so you can tell CalSupport to not apply the lower amount.

Screen 6 popup at item 2a. Changes to checkboxes in the popup at item 2a (exemptions claimed) were not being recorded. This has been fixed.

Tax status MFJ w/ Party to this case. Restructured to eliminate occasional corruption of New Spouse Schedule A information.

Support Summary Report. Page 2 layout improved, overflow text fixed.

Child Support Formula Report. Now shows self-employment tax info and fixed error in reporting of Mom's CA income tax. These did not affect the calculation, only the reporting in this form.

Head of Household Tax Table. Fixed an error in state tax tables affecting incomes between $11,205 and $14,130 that might affect guideline support in range of $1 to 2.

Very high income spousal support. Modified iteration procedures to produce better convergence in cases with annual incomes above $1.2 million.

Form 1040 line 42. Fixed error affecting cases where either party's income was above limitation range: $289,300 for single, $372,700 for MFJ, $186,350 for MFS, $331,000 HH.

Screen 6 popups at items 2b and 5. Changes to checkboxes in the popups at item 2b (exemptions) and item 5 (FICA) were not being recorded unless a numerical field was also changed. This has been fixed.

Saved files. Due to Windows 7, CalSupport Pro now stores saved files in a different location than before. You can see where they are stored in File > Preferences > Data & Sound. If you like, you can choose another location. You'll need to move previously saved data files from the old location (C:\Program Files\CalSupportPro) to the new location.
Note: If you open a file from the old location, it will be saved back there unless you use Save As to put it in the new location.

If you are not using Windows 7, and you prefer to save your new case files to the same place your old ones are stored, you can change the default pathway for saving files from within CalSupport Pro by going to File > Preferences > Data & Sound and using the Browse button to select the CalSupport Pro folder from within the Program Files folder in the C drive.

Screen 1, Nicknames. For increased customization, nicknames entered on Screen 1 are now used throughout CalSupport, including Bench Reports. This is particularly useful for registered domestic partners.

Screen 1, item 5—Timeshare percentage. In the previous version, if you entered one or more custodial children for a parent at line 5, an entry of 20% would automatically be entered at line 6 as time share for the other parent, which could be amended. However, if you changed the line 5 entry to zero custodial children, the 20% timeshare would not be refreshed back to 0% and the inappropriate 20% timehsare wold appear on reports. This has been fixed.

Screen 1, Miscellaneous. Help information improved for Additional Income Tables. Minor typo fixes.

2011 Est. tax tables have been updated to reflect the 2011 1040 Shedule ES.

New! Additional Income Tables. Additional Income tables can now be created by clicking the Additional Income Tables button on Screen 10 (Results). By displaying a range of possible income amounts and the resulting change in support, they show the effect on guideline support of any new or additional income in the future that was not included on Screen 2 when you ran the calculation. If the parties agree, or if the court orders it, these tables can become the basis for adjusted support payments in the future if and when new irregular income is earned. Note: this is only for one-time, short-term, or occasional future income. If either party gets a new stream of reliable income in the future, you should include it on Screen 2 and run a new calculation and possibly apply to modify the support order.

New. Alternative Minimum Tax calculation. The AMT popup is accessed from two places: (1) Entry Menu > item 13 Tax Entries > F Alternative Minimum Tax, or (2) Entry Menu > 13 Tax Entries > B Misc. Taxes > Refine button at item 3. AMT values displayed are read only but can be refined by the user.

Wages Popup (screen 2, item 1) did not show the cents for the hourly wage amount shown on line 3. This has been fixed.

Schedule A line 28 updated. The Schedule A attachment to form 1040 had a limitation removed in 2010. CalSupport has been updated to reflect this change and the word "limited" was removed from line 28 of Schedule A in the Tax Report printout (at Reports > Tax Reports).

Screen 7, item 6—Additional Child Tax Credit. If you unchecked item 6, CalSupport did not record the change. This has been fixed and item 6 is now subordinate to item 5, so unchecking item 5 (Child Tax Credit) also deselects item 6.

New tax tables. CalSupport PRO 2011 has the latest 2010 tax tables and rules for cases calculated in 2011. Older versions are now obsolete.
